Enterprise phone systems are highly complex. Technology is shifting to digital communication, yet the current 9-1-1 system is based on legacy, outdated technologies. When someone calls ‘911’ from inside an organization’s network, it can be difficult or impossible for first responders to find their exact location to reach them quickly.

RedSky E911 protects businesses from liability by overcoming these technical challenges. Their mission of “E911 Made Easy” aims to help enterprises understand and navigate these challenges, as required by Federal and State legislation.

As long-time partners of the RedSky marketing team, we at Sonnenberg excel at simplifying complexity through visual language. We do this through illustrations, diagrams, and design that optimizes user experience.

To add to these, we would add full-motion video to serve as a powerful tool to make understanding E911 accessible and lead prospects down the company’s sales process.

Planning

Every visual piece we create has a purpose and a function. Before our design team created a single animation frame or eye-catching design, we begin with the end of mind.

Who is the target audience? What is the action that we want them to take? How can we take them efficiently take them through this journey, from start to finish?

These questions, and more, are at the heart of our planning process. To find answers, we began the RedSky project with a comprehensive communication brief.

We identified two critical stages in the customer journey where explainer videos would have the most significant impact.

Awareness Stage - Our first video would educate audiences just becoming aware of E911, with a simple explanation of recent legislation and introduction of RedSky as the leading provider of E911 solutions.

Consideration Stage - For audiences ready for a deeper dive into RedSky’s solutions, the following three videos would introduce their primary functionalities – ‘Find’, ‘Route’ and ‘Notify.’

After viewing these four videos, prospects would be ready to speak with a sales rep to begin the final decision stage of the sales process.

Design

We used the information from our communication brief to create written language that we would later translate into visual language.

We began with a script, using copywriting expertise to be economical with words and not waste a second of the viewer’s time.

We then designed storyboards to deliver the script in easily digestible visual symbols. We proposed several alternatives and angles, gathering feedback to find what best resonated with viewers.

After we had the winning concept, we sketched out still images for each of the main scenes. Our artists crafted hand-drawn illustrations (with no stock assets) consistent with RedSky’s brand image – which we had developed in previous projects.

Finally, we brought the stills to life with vibrant animation to hold viewers’ attention from start to finish while delivering the company’s core message.

Outcome

These videos are among the most popular content pieces on RedSky’s website and have been successful on social media channels.

Viewers do not need to understand the many hours dedicated to this project’s planning, targeting, copywriting, storyboarding, and execution. Instead, they are entertained and informed in a brief videos, which are easier to digest than a complex white paper, datasheet, or other static content.

The success of these videos proves the power of visual communication, done right. A two-minute video about ordering pizza can serve as an excellent overview for sales prospects, quickly moving them through their engagement with the company.
